Energy assessment and optimization of wind farms

Assessment of the total energy yield of a wind farm, through the use of advanced numerical tools. The wind flow across a wind farm site is calculated taking into account terrain contours  and roughness changes.  The results of the wind flow calculation and the proposed wind turbines characteristics are used to calculate the total wind farm energy yield. Within the wind farm interactions among the wind turbines are evaluated using wake models.  Air density effects on the wind turbine power production are taken into account. For the estimation of the net energy production technical losses (wind turbine availability, grid losses, etc) are applied to the gross results.  The mean annual energy production estimation is accompanied by an uncertainty analysis for different confidence limit values (P90, P75, etc).

The wind farm layout can be optimized using sophisticated optimization algorithms.  The optimum layout required may be defined by the maximum energy yield or the minimum cost of energy.
